We Travel over the Atlas mountains to reach our first site, Kasbah Ait Benhaddou, where you can visit the Kasbah.
An optional guide for your visit to the Kasbah is available locally. However, this not required for entry into the Kasbah.
Ait ben haddou is a regular film and tv start, being the filming location of BBC Atlantis, BBC The Ark, Game of Thrones and hundreds of Hollywood movies filmed in Morocco.
Note that there is not an entrance fee to enter the Kasbah and you are not obliged to hire a guide.
Journey time Marrakech to Ait Benhaddou: approx 4 hours
Ait ben Haddou to Ouarzazate
Following along the route, we then arrive at Ouarzazate, the gateway to the desert, and the Moroccan city known for Hollywood movies being located and filmed here.
Top Hollywood blockbusters filmed in Ouarzazate include such Movie titles as Gladiator, The Mummy, Kingdom of Heaven, Prince of Persia, Lawrence of Arabia, Babel, James Bond The living daylights and Jewel of the Nile.
During 2011, Game of Thrones was partially filmed in Ouarzazate and in June 2012, HBO announced that Season 3 of Game of thrones would again include The Atlas film studios, Ouarzazate as a location for filming.
The tour allows for time for a visit of Ouarzazate on either day 1 or day 2, depending upon the schedule. It is possible to visit the Atlas film studios during the tour, subject to time. The small cost of about 3.00 euros entrance to the studios is not included in the cost of the tour. Entry to the Studios is voluntary.
The Draa Valley
Following your Ouarzazate visit, we continue along the route, experiencing the Draa Valley, en route to Zagora. We enjoy the sights of local villages of Agdz as we drive closer to Zagora.
Zagora, The Camel trek & Camp
We arrive at Zagora late afternoon and we will join our camels and head off into the desert. We enjoy a one and a half hour Camel trek to reach our Berber desert camp for the night. As we do, the sunset over the desert sets the atmosphere for our night enjoying the stars.
For those that do not wish to ride the Camels, it is possible to walk with the guide.
The camp provides Berber Bivouacs, evening meal and Breakfast. Most nights, the Desert nomads include a Berber drum party around the fireside.
Full bedding is included at the camp, a sleeping bag is not required.
Everyone has tents to sleep in, but if you wish, you can sleep out under the stars to enjoy this amazing free light-show, with the stars being so bright in the Desert.
On day 2 of our Marrakech express overnight desert trip adventure, waking up early to enjoy the sunrise is all part of the day. The traditional nomads would always begin the day early so that they were not traveling in the main heat of the day.
Our Camels will take us back towards Zagora, where we can have some breakfast.
We then rejoin our vehicle for our trip towards Ouarzazate. Lunch can be purchased at Ouarzazate and we can have a break at the Atlas film studios too.
Later in the afternoon, we then cross the Atlas Mountains to head back to Marrakech.
The tour usually arrives back into Marrakech at about 6pm, depending upon traffic conditions and progress.
